“N Shield gives you the ability to actually make a plan. You don’t have to sit back and wait for a weather event. You can pick better conditions — go out when it’s calm a week before the front. It’s just a bit more of a calmer process.”

N Shield Volat 400 is a urease inhibitor containing 400 ppm NBPT. Applied to urea, it slows the enzyme that converts urea to ammonia at the soil surface — the reaction that lets nitrogen escape as gas before rain washes it in. That gives you roughly a 14-day protection window instead of a few days.
It is indicative, not a guarantee. It models nitrogen loss from the two things that drive it hardest — days of exposure before rain or incorporation, and how much rain eventually falls — using published NBPT performance figures. Your soil pH, temperature, stubble cover and humidity all shift the real number. Use it to see whether the economics are close or clear-cut, then check paddock specifics with your agronomist.
You go straight to the full calculator, with the numbers you just entered already loaded — no waiting for an email. You also get access to the Sustainability Calculator. No sales call.
Through your existing reseller. N Shield is distributed nationally through Summit, Agfert and CropOpti among others — ask your agronomist or rep to quote N Shield Volat 400 on your next urea order.
Yes. NBPT inhibits urease wherever urea is present, and UAN is roughly half urea by nitrogen. This calculator is built around granular urea — for UAN programs, talk to us about rates.
